ABSTRACT
Study conducted with the aim to describe lived experiences by young people diagnosed with Osteosarcoma. The strategy for the design of the research consisted on case studies. The information was collected through unstructured interviews and considering that the units of analysis allowed the case definition for study and guide the processing of the results. This approach was based on the proposal of Amedeo Giorgi (1985).The results comprised by five themes provided insight into the lived experiences from the diagnosis to the cure of the disease. Some findings were the importance of considering the information and guidance to the patient and his/her family during the diagnostic report, which is considered essential to promote adherence to treatment. Also, the body-image concerns before amputation as potential threat to therapeutic adherence. A main finding was the analysis of emotional reactions related to the treatment, which included fear, isolation, depression, fear of death, and positive coping. These and other results show that by paying attention to the experiences from people living with cancer, it is possible to obtain a better understanding of some needs, fears and changes generated by the loss of health.REFERENCES
