ABSTRACT
Perineal reconstruction following oncologic resections continues to be a challenge in plastic surgery. Different techniques have been described on how to carry out an adequate reconstruction of this area. Even though there is no gold standard, vertical rectus abdominis musculocutaneous (VRAM) flap is a safe and effective procedure. Immediate reconstruction following an abdominoperineal resection significantly reduces immediate and long term morbidity and mortality. In this report, we present the case of a patient who underwent reconstruction with a VRAM flap after an abdominoperineal resection due to anal carcinoma.
