ABSTRACT
Old flexor tendon lesions are a challenge for the reconstructive surgeon, both for the reconstructive procedure and the postsurgical management. The present study proposes the use of botulinum toxin type A in the preoperative handling of patients with old flexor tendon traumas, applying them to the affected muscle group one week before the surgical procedure, performing reconstruction with a tendon graft and with immediate onset of rehabilitation. The study was been carried out in seven patients with an average time of evolution of the tendon lesion of eight months. A tendon graft was used in all cases, pulleys were reconstructed and early rehabilitation was performed. There were no complications or recurrences of the rupture. We concluded that the use of botulinum toxin presents benefits in the old flexor tendon reconstruction and its postsurgical rehabilitation.
