ABSTRACT
Diabetes is a disease with two components: genetic and environmental, but the former needs the presence of the latter (inadequate
feeding behavior and life style) to be expressed phenotypicaly. Consequently, it is essential that patient be compromised to change
past feeding behavior. This is accomplished through an efficient relationship between physician and patient using certain cognitivebehavioral
principles. Moreover, the fast relief of symptomatology is a powerful tool for the cooperation of the patient. Besides,
trivalent chromium (glucose tolerance factor) is used in order to sensitize target organs to insulin, as several clinical trials have
shown. Very importantly, a patent pending drug that abolishes oxidative stress in the pancreas in order to produce more insulin is
administered. Presently, 20 patients have a follow-up for the next 6 months after their last medical visit, because they are symptomless,
without oral agents or insulin, normal diet and normal glucose levels on several occasions. This situation is called permanent and
total control of diabetes, inasmuch as the patient remains with his new habits, perform daily exercise and ingest trivalent chromium
on a permanent basis.
