ABSTRACT
Massive tear is a pathology that accounts 10-40% of all rotator cuff injuries. Its clinical presentation begins with progressive pain and loss of strength to perform glenohumeral joint movements. Diagnosis is made through imaging studies consisting of X-rays and magnetic resonance imaging of the shoulder. Treatment options range from arthroscopy open repair or in irreparable cases the placement of reverse prosthesis. In recent years the placement of a subacromial spacer has emerged as a therapeutic option with low complications rate and good short-term results. We present the case of a deaf patient with a massive rotator cuff tear, whose language is completely dependent on the mobility of her arm, which was affected by pain. The symptomatology and functional limitation were resolved by the arthroscopic placement of the subacromial spacer.
