Bibliometric study of the journal Anales Médicos (1955-2015). Part 2, analysis of the scientific production

ABSTRACT
Background: The journal Anales Médicos was born in 1955 and has been unceasingly published to date. It’s an official organ of the ABC Medical Center. Aim: Provide the Editorial Committee of the Journal necessary knowledge to support the design and implementation of hospital policies, as well as to help define strategies and courses of action to improve its results based on bibliometric indicators. Method: Descriptive and systematic bibliometric study of all kinds of papers published in the journal Anales Médicos. The use of bibliometric indicators aided to identify: productivity by specialty, type of document and gender. Printed and electronic journals from 1955 to 2015 were taken as reference. For data analysis Microsoft Excel 97-2003 was used. Results: A total of 2,077 authors have participated, with a collaboration rate of 2.36% and a transience rate (transients) of 61%. Female authors’ participation is lower than that of male authors, which is of 1,648 (79.34%). A total of 2,033 articles were published (all kinds of papers), with an average of 33.32 papers per year. The specialties that registered a higher incidence of articles were: surgery -having published 348 papers (17.11%), and internal medicine –having published 338 papers (16.62%). Regarding the type of paper, research or original papers have achieved the highest rate 31.18% (634 papers). Conclusion: After 61 years of study, the most recurring discussed topics have been identified, as well as the preference by type of paper included in the magazine, and by gender.REFERENCES
