ABSTRACT
The Personality Inventory IPIP-NEO was adapted to Spanish
in a sample of Argentinean youth. First, the original English
version was translated to Spanish through direct translation.
After a pilot study and a set of cognitive interviews, this
version was modified to improve the quality of the items.
Then, analyses were conducted to explore internal consistency
and the underlying factorial structure. These analyses
were performed in a local sample (n = 604) and in an american
sample (n = 647). Possible differences as a function of
gender and nationality were explored. Congruence indices
were obtained to compare both factor matrices. The results
showed how a five-factor solution is the most viable solution
for our population, with values of adequate internal
consistency for most scales, and an acceptable match-
ing with the solution obtained with the original version. Future
studies are planned in order to review those scales
where reliability indices were inadequate and to replicate
the present results in a different sample through a system
of data collection on-line.
