Use ofcontactlens in children with ametropias and low vision. Case report

ABSTRACT
Introduction: The sensible decrease of visual ability of a child has a transcendental impact on its quality of life, particularly when it is not detected in the first months of life; it is evaluated in an integral way through a multidisciplinary intervention team closely related to low vision's service with the other services of ophthalmology. Non-corrected ametropias are one of those causes of Cuban children with low vision, and the principal cause in children from Granma province.Clinical case: There are presented three cases with the above mentioned ocular affection that had been followed-up in low vision's and contact lenses consultations at the ambulatory medical center from Carlos "Manuel the Cespedes" Hospital in Bayamo city.
Discussion: With the use of contact lenses two patients had visual significant improvements that were excluded from low vision condition. A patient with this condition stays but with visual evident improvement, that reaffirms that the use of contact lenses improves considerably the visual acuity of children with high ametropias and low vision; with improvement in his quality of life and. They are inserted in school and society activities in an active way.
Conclusion: Two or the patients were excluded from low vision; one remains in this category but with visual improvement.
