ABSTRACT
We report our experience in 47 transplants made on patients with less than 17 years of age, between January 1980 and January 1998. Age range 11.2 years and were 24 female and 23 male. 40 of those cases (85.1%) were from live relative donors and 7 (14.8%) from dead donors. 51% were from structural abnormalities of the urinary tract, and 10.6% from focal glomeruloesclerosis and segmentary. 39 allografts were inside the abdomen and 8 iliac outside the abdomen, all 47 cases were reimplanted with the Politano-Leadbetter technique. There were urologic complications in 10.6% of the cases, and thrombosis of the kidney artery in two cases (4.2%). Final report indicates that death occurred in six cases, which fort were secondary to sepsis, one a brain vascular disease secondary to arterial hypertension. One died in another hospital and was undetermined.
