ABSTRACT
Systemic lupus erythematosus is an autoimmune rheumatic disease complex multisystem with significant potential for morbidity and mortality. It has a worldwide distribution that affects all races. Objective: To review the main manifestations of systemic lupus erythematosus that may be of interest to the binomial rheumatologist-dermatologist in the diagnosis and monitoring of this autoimmune rheumatic disease.
Development: among the publications within the period 2010-2015, a systematic search was conducted for scientific information available related to the subject, in LILACS, PubMed, Altavista and Google Scholar, using the terms "systemic lupus erythematosus", "injury and dermatologic manifestations ". The search strategy was modified by adding the words "clinical practice guidelines". The search was limited to articles written in Spanish and English. As exclusion criteria, clinical trials and case reports were not selected.
Conclusions: early diagnosis and treatment are vital to achieve control of the disease and prevent its progress towards functional disability and reduced quality of patients’ lives. Therefore, updating the knowledge of the binomial-dermatologist rheumatologist enables empowerment oriented towards a comprehensive therapeutic approach, eradicating or at least mitigating the difficulties doctors face at the time of diagnosis and monitoring of these patients.
