Neck pain. Causes and risk factors in the population of a medical office

ABSTRACT
Introduction: the neck pain is a disease originated for different causes, among
them are emphasized the degenerative for mechanic factors. A minimum alteration
of the neck movement has a functional and professional repercussion. The neck
pain increases its frequency in medical consultation.
Objective: to determinate the risk factors related with neck pain in a medical
consulter in Plaza de la Revolución, Havana, in population older than 15 years.
Method: a questioner of 15 questions was applied included general data and
factors related with neck pain it was a descriptive study, retrospective and
transversal to a representative sample of 557 persons.
Results: that the neck pain referred in any moment of the life predominates in
patients that work seated, those who make manual work, in professional drivers
and house wives; the presence of pain and use of computers 36,4 % are and
important risk factors for neck pain like the visual problems 69,3 %.
Conclusions: it was evidenced that the neck pain is related with risk factors most
of them modifiable with health actions of promotion and prevention.
