ABSTRACT
The present study evaluated the effects of two types of prior linguistic interactions such as verbal agreement and instruction, on the choice of shared contingencies in a choice task between shared or individual contingencies and their functional range over novel tasks. Eighteen students were selected by a test and randomly assigned to an experimental group. Three different experimental tasks were presented, Task 1 consisted of solving arithmetic operations, Task 2 was similar to the first one and the Task 3, was completely new and consisted of solving matching to sample trials. For the “instruction” Group, participants were presented an instruction indicating that they must solve both, their own and partner’s tasks. For “verbal agreement” Group, a message from a colleague at the beginning of the session was sent to the participant allowing them to establish an agreement about performing individually or jointly during the task. The results showed that instructions mostly promoted choosing shared contingencies. Also their functional range was observed even in novel tasks. The condition of verbal agreements it was observed a greater choice of individual contingencies.
