Mental representations about the procastination in psychology students from UNMSM

ABSTRACT

This research aimed to analyze, understand, describe and explain procrastination, inquiring about its manifestation in everyday and academic lives of students of Psychology and how it is mentally represented by them. Four students from the Faculty of Psychology at the National University of San Marcos interviews were conducted using a thematic interview guide. In addition, a mural, where students expressed their views on three questions related to procrastination was used. The information collected was analyzed using the qualitative data software Atlas.ti v.6.0 and software for content analysis and text mining, T-LAB, V.8.1.Los results show that students perceive as a procrastination procrastination identifying among the main causes of the low intrinsic motivation for the task and inadequate planning time, these causes are related to the difficulties in changing an attitude to an procrastinadoraprocrastinadora. They also stated that they generate these consequences, such as: subjective discomfort at the lack of time, irrational thoughts and stress. In addition, risk factors that become prone to procrastination students are identified, as well as protective factors that reduce.
