Personal learning environments in the formal and informal training process

ABSTRACT
Introduction: modern educational trends have been accompanied by the
technological development achieved by the society. Social networks are the last
mass phenomenon on the Internet and its potential for learning has hardly been
explored. We need a new approach to use the information and communications
technology in informal learning, training and throughout life.
Objective: to elaborate on the general aspects of the use of technology in
teaching, on its pedagogical settings, as well as on the personal learning
environments and their characteristics.
Development: we identified general aspects regarding the use of technology in
education, the current approaches and trends, its importance, functions and tools
for personalized learning environments. The national health system and particularly
medical education still lack a disruptive education that fosters informal learning
through personal learning environments, even when it has the Virtual University of
Health and numerous services provided by INFOMED.
Conclusions: the development of the information and communications technology
has had a significant influence on the educational student-centered processes. An
important proposal are the personal learning environments, in which students
organize their learning activities according to their interests, but they require
guidance from academic institutions and professors in the development of
educational activities based on the curriculum and those that may be used by the
students to develop formal and informal learning, in their personalized learning.
