ABSTRACT
Gastric perforation in the neonatal period is a rare surgical emergency, it is associated with high morbidity and mortality
regardless of the gestational age, with death rates between 70 to 100 percent, clinically presents: vomiting, abdominal
distention, and respiratory distress. Pneumoperitoneum is observed at Rx. The most frequently affected site is the greater
curvature of the stomach. Two cases of preterm infants between 29 and 30 weeks gestation are reported, whose common
characteristic having studied with neonatal asphyxia; they were intervened surgically, surviving both. Conclusions. Every
patient preterm perinatal asphyxia, that present with vomiting abdominal distension, difficulty breathing and pneumoperitoneum
should be suspected gastric perforation and be operated on of urgency to improve survival.
