ABSTRACT
Background: chronic shoulder instability is a disease that affects young patients generally. Its main treatment is surgery, either by open way or arthroscopically.
Objective: to deepen into aspects such as surgical indications and most used techniques in arthroscopical way.
Methods: search for information was carried out from May 1
st 2016 to June 30
th 2016. A bibliographical review of 539 published articles in Pubmed, Hinari, SciELO and Medline databases, through the information locator EndNote was conducted. Among all, 54 quotes were selected to conduct the revision; all of them were from five years including four books.
Development: stabilizers of the shoulder divided into static and dynamic are described. General surgical indications and advantages of arthroscopic treatment, as well as the most used anesthetic methods are stated. The techniques of Bankart, Lartajet, repair of glenohumeral ligaments, and remplissage were described.
Conclusions: arthroscopic treatment has several advantages over open ones. The most common techniques are Bankart, capsular plication, Latarjet and remplissage.
