ABSTRACT
Introduction: In the “Special” chapter, from the most recent RCCP guide, proposes
no variance in between algorithms used to treat the morbidly obese versus those with
a healthy body composition other than adjustments for body volume.
Objective: Precise the fundamental physio pathological differences in the obese heart
for the resuscitator, and the differences of resuscitating practices for these individuals.
Development: Before beginning RCCP process with an obese patient some basic
precautions must be taken beginning with the positioning of the patient, to the
management of airway, the channeling of peripheral veins, and lastly when it comes to
the cardiac compressions, they become extremely complex as a result of such high
corporal volume.
Conclusion: The morbidly obese are challenging patients when it comes to the RCCP
process. More attention needs to be dedicated to their cardiovascular health where
phenomena such as arteriosclerosis, myocardiopathies and irregular heart rhythms,
along with VAD, all which require maximum preparation from the respective
practitioner.
