ABSTRACT
Objective. To analyze the frequency of neurological complications in kidney transplant patients and associated factors. Hypothesis. The neurological complications in kidney transplant patients in Morelia are related to immunosuppression time.Methods. This is a retrospective study during the period from January 2009 to December 2014. Kidney transplant patients’ records were registered at the General Hospital “Dr. Miguel Silva”. Records of patients transplanted in another institution and incomplete records were excluded.
Results. A total of 121 patients were included in the study, of which 22 patients had neurological symptoms, 13 men (59%) and 9 women (41%), mean age 32 ± 12 years. Neurological disturbances that occurred in the study were: Tremor (41%), dizziness (32%), peripheral neuropathy (18%), headache (14%) and loss of strength (4%), being more frequent in the male, no association between use of immunosuppressant time. No statistically significant association was found between neurological disorders and type of donor, or between neurological disorders and immunosuppression time.
Conclusion. Contrary to our hypothesis, we found no association between the time of use of immunosuppressants and neurologic complications in renal transplant recipients.
