Burnout syndrome in physicians of the regional hospital 'Teodoro Maldonado Carbo' of the Ecuadorian Institute of Social Security

ABSTRACT
A descriptive and quantitative study of the burnout syndrome in physicians of different specialties of the regional hospital ‘Teodoro Maldonado Carbo' of the Ecuadorian Institute of Social Security of Guayaquil city was carried out. From a total of 213 physicians, 129 of them participate in the study, 51 females and 78 males. They responded to the Burnout Questionnaire for Physicians of B. Moreno. This instrument valuates the burnout antecedents; the three burnout components: emotional tiredness, estrangement and inefficiency; the burnout consequences and its moderating factors. In addition, the instrument adds a questionnaire of stress symptom. The most relevant results show that a third of the physicians said to suffer some chronic illness, and most of a half of them expressed that work affected their health. In general, burnout in the physicians was mild and it does not damage hardly their professional values, and its prevalence is 28.5%
