ABSTRACT
Objective: to establish levels of job satisfaction of the nursing staff at a public hospital in Jalisco according to socio-labor characteristics. Material and method: A descriptive cross-section design was made. Data were gathered by applying The Motivation and Job Satisfaction Test; the socio-work variables were: gender, age, level of education, seniority at the institution and years at current service. The work universe consisted of all the nurses in the study population obtained from the 2014 census. Results: a total of 100 nurses were studied of which 93 were women and 7 men. The average age was 44 (±10.1) years old while their seniority at the institution was 20 (±10.14) years. The job satisfaction grades for the motivation and satisfaction dimensions showed similar behavior with high grades of 12% and 13% respectively, a mean grade of 86% for both dimensions, and low grades of 2% and 1% respectively. The high grade for the hierarchy or status dimension was 50%, the mean 42% and the low grade 8%. No statistically meaningful differences were observed in the sociodemographic and job variables (gender, age, level of education, and seniority at the institution and years at their current service) in connection with the different dimensions of job satisfaction. Conclusions: Generally speaking the nursing staff’s motivation and satisfaction at the institution show a mean grade of almost 90%, unlike that of the hierarchy or status where half reported a high grade.REFERENCES
