ABSTRACT
Trichodynia refers to the painful, burning or stinging sensation of the hair follicle. This symptom is referred by patients in the daily dermatologic practice, associated in some cases with several forms of alopecia. The main cause of this pathology remains unknown, although several factors have been implicated, for example, the action of certain chemical inflammatory mediators, and neuro-psychiatric alterations. Treatment is considered challenging. It is suggested that a multidisciplinary team of physicians examines the patient to rule out other possible diseases first. In this article we present a brief review of the topic.
