ABSTRACT
Introduction: Telomeres are nucleoprotein structures at the end of chromosomes and they are essential for their stability. The process of their replication during cell cycle has a lot of difficulties. Because of this complexity, the process require a large number of proteins in order to carry out the duplication as efficiently as possible.
Objetive: To update the knowledge about telomere duplication.
Method: Papers published during the last five years in national and international journals were analyzed. These articles are available in HINARI, PubMed, and Perii databases and were localized through
www.infomed.sld.cu.
Main text: First, the structure of telomeres and telomerase, the principal enzyme of this process, are presented. Last, the process of telomere replication is discussed and finally some aspects of telomeric diseases are described.
Conclusions: The paper evidence that telomere replication is a real complex process.
