ABSTRACT
The extreme ages of the reproductive life constitute a variable of risk exposure. A retrospective longitudinal analytical investigation was realized with mixed approach in the Service of Neonatology of “Mariana Grajales” Hospital from January 2012 to July 2015 with the aim to characterize the related variables with the neonatal morbidity and the mortality in children of mothers in extreme ages. The study population was conformed by 69 neonatos by sick neonates of mothers younger than 20 years and older than 35. The obtained information registered in a form that gathered maternal variables and perinatales. The statistical analysis was realized and the results were represented in pictures and graphs. The children of mothers in extreme ages were 1 092 neonates (18.8%) and prevailed from adolescents (611, 10.5%) against 481 (8.3%) from ancient mothers; in both groups meonates predominated to term (65.8%), with more or equal weight to 2 500 grams (63.8 %) and with a distribution per sex almost equitable; six of every hundred children of mothers in extreme ages fall ill, no critical morbidity prevailed (75.1 %) and the hyperbilirrubinemia was the most frequent clinical illness. Association was not demonstrated between the extreme maternal ages and the neonatal morbidity; to be a son of adolescent or ancient mother did not constitute a risk to die in the studied population.REFERENCES
