ABSTRACT
Delusions and hallucinations are the dimension "psychoticism" present in different
diagnostic categories of mental disorders and behavioral systemized in the Tenth
Revision of the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-10), including
schizophrenia and other psychoses include related and depressive and manic episodes
with psychotic symptoms. Knowledge of the neurobiological basis of psychotic
symptoms can pose, from an interdisciplinary position, the criterion of poor nutrition as
a member of cerebral disease state in these disorders. Inadequate nutrient
bioavailability prevents effective functioning of brain cells or cell metabolism and
nutrition. The membrane hypothesis suggests that psychotic disorders may present
with phospholipid metabolism disorders level of cellular membranes by decreasing the
polyunsaturated fatty acids of the omega-3 series at that level in the brain and other
body tissues. Nutritional interventions is also recommended in the design of care at
any level of patients with psychotic disorders by its chronic state of malnutrition and
often cerebral, peripheral.
