Methodology for the development of metacognition in students of Technician in Dietetic

ABSTRACT
Background: future health professionals have as the main objective in its formation to solve the problems they will face in the exercise of their work; a way to achieve this is to promote the metacognitive delopment.Objective: to present the groundwork of a methodology for metacognitive development of students with the use of teaching and learning strategies in the subject Introduction to Research Methodology of future technicians in Dietetics.
Methods: a longitudinal descriptive study was carried out in the academic year 2015-2016 in which theoretical methods were used: the analytic-synthetic and historical and logical; Empirical ones: documentary analysis, scientific observation, survey, test and consultation with specialists; and statistics: frequency analysis.
Results: at the beginning of the investigation the selected students presented, difficulties mainly given by the limited development of strategic knowledge, personal knowledge and tasks to which they faced in the subject Introduction to Research Methodology, so a methodology for the development of metacognition with the use of teaching and learning strategies was developed.
Conclusions: as results of its application to the sample progress was made on the fundamental aspects of metacognition. The experts consulted considered the methodology as relevant and feasible to be applied.
