Considerations for acute pain analgesic management in the patient with renal disease

ABSTRACT
Chronic kidney disease is nowadays considered as a major health issue. Its prevalence increases with age. The prevalence of chronic kidney disease in Mexico has increase during the last decades due the increase in the number of subjects with diabetes mellitus and other chronic degenerative diseases. A percentage of these individuals will eventually undergo to a surgical procedure and they may need analgesic relief from the resultant acute postoperative pain. Therefore it is important for the clinician to identify the pharmacological issues related to the dysfunction of normal kidney physiology and the impact of these changes in the action of analgesic drugs.
