ABSTRACT
Introduction: central granuloma of giant cell is a lesion that occupies 7% of benign tumors and it is exclusively found in the maxillaries, most commonly in the jaw. It more often occurs in women than in men and predominantly in the second and third decade of life. The radiographic features of central granuloma of giant cells are variable and can be confused with other lesions of the jaws. The central granuloma of giant cells can have an aggressive behavior which allows determining a choice for its treatment, including enucleation, curettage or resection in blocks of the lesion, as in the case described.Case report: a patient with extensive tumor in the jaw diagnosed as a central granuloma of giant cells underwent surgical treatment with the removal of much of the lower jawbone providing its reconstruction with a titanium plate and obtaining good aesthetic and functional results. The relevance of this research states in the peculiarities of this tumor in our context and the size of the tumor; which is uncommon with complexity of a necessary surgical treatment, as well as the functional-aesthetic results obtained without evidence of relapses to date.
Conclusions: in this case resection in block was performed in addition to the reconstruction of surgical defect with titanium plate using extra-oral surgical approach. No serious complications occurred. The clinical and radiographic follow-up showed no relapses with a favorable evolution.
