ABSTRACT
Pilomatrixoma is a benign tumor of cutaneous appendages. It is mainly found on head and neck. Preoperative diagnosis varies from 0% to 58% of the cases. Clinical presentation, imaging studies and cytology could lead to false positive diagnosis, leading to unnecessary surgical procedures. This paper reports the case of a 50-year-old woman who presented a painless left submandibular mass. On examination, a round, freely mobile nodule, of 2x2 cm was found. Computed tomography showed a well-defined mass, isodense to soft tissues. An excisional biopsy was made, and the histopathological examination was conclusive for pilomatrixoma. Pilomatrixoma should be considered in the differential diagnosis of head and neck tumors, because of its frequency in such location. A complete excisional biopsy is considered the best approach to prevent recurrences.
