ABSTRACT
Introduction: the serious intraabdominal infection has a high morbidity and mortality incidence rate; it is responsible for several cases of sepsis in the surgical patients, demanding emergent intensive cares. Objective: to determine the morbidity and mortality rate of the serious intraabdominal infection at intensive care unit.
Methods: a prospective and analytic trial was carried out at “Abel Santamaria Cuadrado” General Hospital´s intensive care unit, 2015. For the statistics prosecution the absolute relative frequency, square chi, stocking and T student were considered. The universe was based on 58 patients with serious intraabdominal infection; a sample of 40 patients was conformed. The variables were: age, sex, associated comorbidity, risk factors of bad evolution, origin of the infection, culture of peritoneal secretions, complications, empiric antibiotic therapy and scales of graveness.
Results: male sex and the patients with 60 years and more had the highest mortality; the most survivors group was between 39 and 59 years. Ischemic cardiopathy and diabetes mellitus were related with the mortality. Septic shock, diabetes mellitus and inmunodepressive were the factors related with the worse evolution; as well as gastrointestinal infection how origin place. The beginning of the symptoms, antibiotic therapy, the value of Sequential Organ Failure Assessment after the admission and evaluation for the Manheim´s scale were remarkable factors too.
Conclusions: serious intraabdominal infection produces lots of deaths in a year, that´s why the early diagnosis and correct treatment are the reasons and too important conditions to revert than dramatic evolution.
