ABSTRACT
Transverse myelitis is an acute
or sub-acute neurological
syndrome in which the spinal
cord is affected. There are
disturbances in sensory nerves,
motor nerves and autonomic
nervous system attributed to
demyelination lesions of the
spinal cord, which produce
significant functional outcomes.
Its incidence is very low and
possesses a diverse etiology
associated with infections,
neoplasic diseases, systemic
and unknown causes. In order
to determine whether or not
a patient has this condition
having a previous clinical
suspicion, neuroimages and
lumbar puncture may be
required. We report a case of
an acute transverse myelitis
following wasp sting that
was diagnosed and treated at
National Children’s Hospital.
