ABSTRACT
Aortic Stenosis is the main valve
disease in the western world
and the most common cause of
heart valve operations. Aortic
stenosis occurs primarily due to
a degenerative calcification of
the aortic cusps most frequently
in the context of a patient with
congenital bicuspid aortic
valve. Currently, no medical
therapies are able to modify
disease progression, however
the advances in knowledge
about the pathophysiology and
genetics involved could lead
to new treatments. Nowadays
several drugs for this purpose
are being studied and the only
treatments that improve the
outcome in these patients are
still the aortic replacement and
aortic implantation.
