Endoscopic treatment of adenocarcinoma of ampulla of Vater

ABSTRACT

The incidence of carcinoma of the ampulla of Vater has been reported at 0.5/100,000. We present the case of a 55-year-old man with an endoscopic and histopathological diagnosis of adenocarcinoma of the ampulla of Vater; endoscopic ultrasound detected no tumor infiltration and he underwent endoscopic papillectomy with en bloc resection. Endoscopic ampullectomy allows resection of benign tumors and in situ carcinoma and must be used as the first line of treatment in these cases.
