ABSTRACT
Pyomyositis is primary infection of skeletal muscle, where a purulent infection arises from hematogenous spread and usually ends with an abscess formation. A high incidence of this disease occurs in the tropics, but it is increasingly being seen in temperate countries, due in part to its association with immunodeficiency conditions such as human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection, diabetes mellitus, malignancy and organ transplantation. The article reviews Pyomyositis, because Costa Rica is a tropical country which is vulnerable to this disease.
