ABSTRACT
Anti-addictive therapeutics is analyzed from the point of view of addictions psychiatry, in order to promote clinical tools which support a better handling of cases. The operative binomial demand-failure makes post-treatment variables responsible of the favorable prognosis, even though it causes Burned Out Syndrome. This point of view uses its resources (risk-usefulness, cost-effectiveness) in free-of-drugs environments, qualified therapists, ad hoc activities and the fulfillment of normativity. Its operational failure recognizes characteristics in the patient (background, personality, consumption pattern, co-morbidity, internments, cronicity), of the professional dynamics (comprehension, cooperation, communication, transference and counter-transference), and the therapist (tolerance, respect, professionalism). It emphasizes the importance of consciousness about illness, development of diagnostic and sifting procedures, the handling of co-morbidity (HIV, psychophysical and sexual violence), special conditions such as senescence and the use of “vaccinations”. It concludes pointing out the participation of humanistic premises in the consolidation of a healthy way of living.
