ABSTRACT
Asthma poses a heterogeneous
disease characterized by a
chronic air way inflammation,
reversible limitation to
respiratory airflow and pivotal
symptoms –wheeze, shortness
of breath, chest tightness, and
cough– that vary over time and
on intensity. In the following
review, we shall discuss
the appropriate diagnostic
approach in primary attention,
control methods of symptoms
and risk factors, and referenceto-
specialist criteria. Medical
treatment and emergencies are
discussed elsewhere.
