ABSTRACT

Preterm labor is the leading cause of perinatal morbidity and mortality in develop countries. Despite numerous studies, the therapeutic tocolytic arsenal that we have at hand, the various secondary and terciary interventions available we have not been able to substantially reduce the rate of preterm births in recent years. This review will present two important concepts in the managment of preterm delivery, recognized and supported by many international studies; the predictive value of cervical length in preterm delivery and its prevention with the use of progesterone.
