Soft tissue management prior to implant placement in the anterior area

ABSTRACT

The placement of dental implants involves taking into consideration a number of different surgical and/or prosthetic techniques to have not only a functional result, but also an esthetic one. The anterior maxilla is one of the most complex areas in terms of implant placement because, for the results to be aesthetically harmonious, both bone and gingival conditions have to be taken into account. This clinical case illustrates a multidisciplinary approach in treating implants in the upper anterior sector and the handling of soft tissues. We describe a case of a healthy 52-year-old female patient who is a former smoker. Due to inadequate conditions of root length, insertion loss and tooth mobility, the removal of the four upper incisors was indicated. The design of the temporary restoration was key to the preservation of the gingival architecture. The correct planning of the dental implants is an important factor for a successful outcome both functionally and esthetically.
