ABSTRACT
Clinical practice guidelines present all relevant
evidence on a particular issue in order to help
physicians select the best treatment strategies. This
guideline aims to optimize the diagnostic process
and treatment of acute myocardial infarction, to
assess adherence to issued guidelines and to
propose changes based on the results obtained. It
refers to patients with ischemic symptoms or their
equivalents, persistent ST-segment elevation or
ST-segment and T-wave changes consistent with the
diagnosis of non-ST segment elevation myocardial
infarction. Elements directly related to percutaneous
coronary intervention and surgical myocardial
revascularization are not addressed. A search in
databases and major international guidelines was
conducted to tailor recommendations to our
conditions.
