ABSTRACT
Abdominal pain is a
disease with great frequency
in the emergency department
and it presents a diagnostic
challenge due to the wide
range of etiologies. It has been
shown that the use of opioids
does not increases the risk of
incorrect diagnosis as in errors
in the choice of treatment,
and therefore it facilitates the
psisician the fisical exploration
of the acute abdomen. Every
patient should be individualized
and every physician should
have extensive knowledge
about anatomy, physiology,
pharmacology and differential
diagnosis in order to obtain
the most accurate diagnosis. In
conclusion, the administration
of analgesia prior to diagnosis
is favorable for the patient
during the evaluation as for
the treatment choice and one
should not delay its indication.
