Education for health and nursing actions: an articulation in preconception risk control

ABSTRACT
Introduction: prevention and health promotion are among the roles of the family doctor and nurse, especially regarding reproductive health, as a fundamental pillar in disease prevention and death during the reproductions process.Objective: to assess the effectiveness of an educational intervention about preconception risk in fertile-aged women.
Methods: technological development and intervention research carried out in Hermanos Cruz Regional division from January 2012 to December 2013. Target group: 361 women at ages 15-49 years with preconception risk. Sample: 110 women with preconception risk. The intervention was developed in three phases: diagnostic, intervention and evaluation. Descriptive statistics were used and the McNemar method was applied.
Results: after the educational intervention, knowledge about family planning increased to 93.7%; about contraceptive methods, to 96.3%; attendance to the consultation, to 69.0%
Conclusions: an educational intervention was implemented, which permitted increasing the level of knowledge about family planning, contraception and preconception risk, attendance at consultation was increased. The nursing staff of primary health care has a health education methodological tool for educational work regarding this topic.
