ABSTRACT
In the last 40 years, mammary reconstruction after mastectomy has evolved considerably with significant technical advance that has produced a wide variety of surgical techniques. When we have so many options, it is logical that there can be controversies and discrepancies in the preferences and indications of each of the techniques, that is why for didactic and technical reasons, we should analyze each of the options available, individualizing their indications, analyzing their benefits and limitations. In this paper, the author’s experience with 1,713 mammary reconstructions in the last 45 years is presented to analyze and review what has been done up to now, making a critical analysis and updating the surgical options available in the breast area, with the aim of orienting and promoting the spread of the concepts and a discussion on this subject.
