Tracheal intubation via Airtrack® optical laryngoscope in a patient with Treacher-Collins syndrome

ABSTRACT

Treacher-Collins syndrome is a congenital craniofacial disorder that is inherited in an autosomal dominant manner with variable penetrance. The mutated gene encodes a protein melaza critical in the formation of the structures derived from the first and second branchial arch. The diagnosis is clinical. The treatment is multidisciplinary. Anesthetic level is important to anticipate difficult airway in these patients. A brief review of the literature is performed and the case of a patient diagnosed with Treacher-Collins syndrome (TCS), under general anesthesia and intubated with Airtraq® for the implementation of a left temporal hearing aid (BAHA).
