Dermatological markers of metabolic diseases

ABSTRACT

Metabolic diseases are a common problem worldwide. Many of these diseases, including diabetes mellitus, metabolic syndrome and some thyroid diseases, may manifest on the skin before than in other organs. Knowledge of cutaneous manifestations helps to identify patients at risk, establish the diagnosis and monitor the adverse effects of therapy. This is a review of the available literature of the cutaneous features associated to diabetes mellitus, metabolic syndrome and thyroid disease.
