ABSTRACT
Introduction: for dentist pain elimination is a precondition for an effective work, and for the patient it means being protected against unnecessary inconvenience. Therefore, to carry out a tooth extraction, the most common procedure in Dentistry is the use of local anesthetics. Objective: to evaluate the efficacy of homeopathic medicine Hypericum perforatum as a local anesthetic in dental extractions.
Method: an experimental study was carried out in the Consultation of Stomatology at the Provincial Psychiatric Hospital "Nguyen Van Troi" of Ciego de Ávila, in the period from April to October 2014. The sample consisted of 60 patients with treatment criteria, which were divided into three groups of 20 people. In each group a different treatment scheme was used: in the treatment schedule No.1 was used Hypericum perforatum to 200 CH power; in the second scheme it was used at 1000 CH; and in third, the conventional method was followed.
Results: homeopathic therapy used in dental extractions had a high degree of analgesic efficacy; in patients treated by malocclusion the result was good. Less than 30 % of patients had adverse reactions to Hypericum perforatum.
Conclusions: there were no significant differences in age, sex and diagnosis regarding treatment regimens used. In the No.2 scheme the analgesia level was high in all ages and it was evaluated of good for all established diagnoses; the patient satisfaction was high.
