ABSTRACT
The quality of emergency care in hospitals depends largely on the structural and organizational resources available in such settings. This paper aims to show some elements that reflect the overcrowding of the emergency department of the Dr. Gustavo Aldereguía Lima General Hospital and its possible causes and consequences. A chronological summary of the most important organizational transformations that have been implemented in order to improve the quality of care was performed. Data related to the increased use of this service in recent years were provided, as well as factors that may affect the response capacity of the emergency department.REFERENCES
