Pedagogic and didactics upgrading: inevitable necessity for the professors and tutors of the specialization process

ABSTRACT
Background: the pedagogic and didactics upgrading is directed to improve the performance of the professors, tutors and executives as a consequence of the steady improvement of the teaching-learning process.Objective: to characterize the current state of the pedagogic and didactics preparation of the professors, tutors and executives of the specialty Comprehensive General Medicine, in the University Polyclinic “Hermanos Cruz” from Pinar del Río, in the first trimester of 2015.
Methods: it was carried out a descriptive and cross-sectional investigation that included the 59 professors, tutors and executives of the Comprehensive General Medicine specialty. Theoretical methods were used (analysis-synthesis and induction-deduction) and empiric ones (documental review and a survey in questionnaire form).
Results: everybody recognize as a high-priority the pedagogic and didactics upgrading to guarantee the quality of the teaching-learning process they develop, the teaching ranks of instructor and assistant professors prevail in the teaching staff and a minimum percent of the professors are masters in medical education, insufficient preparation of the teaching staff in the general and specific didactic of the medical education is verified. The predominant types of pedagogic preparation they have received are the basic and advanced courses of Pedagogy.
Conclusions: it is of paramount importance to sustain a process of pedagogic and didactics formation of the professors and tutors, according to the challenges of the current medical education that allows the preparation to face the qualitative steps ahead that take place in the formation of health specialists appropriately.
