ABSTRACT
Leprosy is an infectious disease caused by
Mycobacterium leprae. However, under the same environmental factors
there are some persons who suffer it, while others are resistant. It is known that dermatoglyphics are altered when there are genetic factors affecting fetal development. The aim of this study was to relate the dermatoglyphics finding with the presence of lepromatous leprosy. A cross-sectional unpaired analytical study, conducted with a case-control desing, in 30 individual diagnosed with lepromatous leprosy, from September 2012 to June 2014. The frequencies of different dermatoglyphic parameters described from normal Cuban population by Borbolla and Cols were used as control. Comparisons were made by hands and sex. Differences with known Cuban controls were observed, these included: lack of arches in the fourth finger of the left hand and the third of right hand in men; as well as the presence of radial loop finger in the third finger of the left hand in women and axial triradius t’’ in both hands in men. There were differences between the dermatoglyphs of lepromatous
patients relative to normal Cuban population.
