ABSTRACT
Background: Blood transfusion as a medical procedure is not free of complications, being alloimmunization one of them, this is because of the many variables involved in blood transfusion and those inherent to this tissue.
Objectives: To conduct a literature review based on clinical cases of multiple antibodies alloimmunization at the Hospital de Cardiología, Centro Médico Nacional Siglo XXI.
Material and methods: Three cases of patients treated at the Hospital de Cardiología are reviewed; highlighting the importance of the Rh blood system in the frequency of alloantibodies detected as responsible of the alloimmunization.
Results: Alloimmunization is a phenomenon that occurs frequently among multitransfused or massively transfused patients. The Rh antigens and their system are responsible for at least 50% in the case series studies about alloimmunization; and its presence is also associated with many cases of multiple antibodies alloimmunization.
Conclusions: It is necessary to have theoretical knowledge and human and structural capacities in the case of multiple antibodies alloimmunization in order to provide an efficient treatment and compatible blood components to patients in this situation.
