ABSTRACT
Background: Syringomas are benign skin tumors derived from eccrine sweat ducts. The periorbital localized form is the most common.
Material and methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study in consulting patients with multiple periorbital syringomas at the Dermatology Department of Hospital del Carmen during 2014.
Results: We analyzed the clinical and dermoscopic characteristics of 30 syringomas in six patients. We found a pattern that consists of an ivory white homogeneous area, with irregular and poorly defined borders in more than 90% of the cases. We call this «cloud» pattern, and «cloudy sky» when there are multiple lesions, which is very common.
Discussion: Dermoscopic findings provide additional information to the clinical exam. The «cloud» or «cloudy sky» dermoscopic pattern helps us in the noninvasive diagnosis of periorbital syringomas. Further studies are needed to define its specificity and sensitivity.
