ABSTRACT
Introduction: creating sustained competitive edge demands that the organizations have an approach and an attitude centered on technological learning, innovation and business intelligence implementation. The art of integrating these aspects will assure the satisfaction of clients and the great performance of decision-makers. The international practice in the field of business intelligence admits the need of carrying out technological surveillance studies on competition: suppliers and clients and for updating of business and product portfolio.Objective: to establish a process of external information gathering in an integrated business intelligence system for the in vitro diagnosis industry.
Methods: information searches on the state of the art of in vitro diagnosis databases were made at the Cuban Office of Industrial Property; market research tools and trend analysis were used to evaluate and stratify the collection information from databases.
Results: a scientifically founded procedure was created to give all the actors the possibility of being involved in the decision-making. It was applied in the diagnosis industry, which allowed knowing how this world is moving on and what the line of diagnostic devices should be potentiated nation-wide in order to guarantee an excellence service in the clinical laboratories.
Conclusions: a working tool is available, which allows in an intelligent way to apply due actions in the depending on the setting.
